Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro are in their final full week of support, while current update regressions and software-supply-chain problems make careful diagnostics more important than ever.

Windows 11 24H2: the support deadline is here

Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro reach end of servicing on October 13, 2026. This should now be part of every Windows intake.

Check: winver, update health, backup status, BitLocker recovery information, TPM and Secure Boot, available storage, and upgrade eligibility before forcing a feature update.

AC-3 audio problems can look like app or hardware failure

Some recent Windows updates can cause applications that depend on AC-3/Dolby Digital decoding to crash, fail to open, or stop working when audio is used. A media app or game suddenly failing does not automatically mean bad RAM, a dead GPU, or failed audio hardware.

DJ action: record the Windows build and KB history, check Reliability Monitor and Event Viewer, reproduce the problem, then compare behavior before replacing hardware or reinstalling Windows.

Ubuntu security work remains active

Recent Ubuntu security work spans kernel and application packages. The useful shop policy is consistent: update, reboot, verify the running kernel, then test modules, graphics, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, audio, Flatpak apps, and suspend/resume.

GitHub Actions and repair tools both need stronger trust rules

Supply-chain incidents involving third-party GitHub Actions show why a repository location or familiar tag is not enough to establish trust. Mutable release tags can point somewhere different later.

For important development and repair dependencies, verify the official project, review the release, prefer pinned commits where appropriate, and keep known-good local copies and hashes of critical technician utilities.

RAM and SSD economics still favor targeted repair

Memory and storage supply remains tight enough that replacing an otherwise capable PC can be an expensive answer to a small problem. Test and retain known-good DDR4, DDR5, SSDs, laptop memory, Wi-Fi cards, GPUs, and power supplies instead of automatically treating them as scrap.

Drive temperature belongs in storage diagnostics

SMART status alone does not tell the whole story. Record drive temperature, power-on hours, reallocated and pending sectors, airflow, mounting, and backup status. A drive that runs hot for years deserves attention even if the health label still says “Good.”

Seattle local SEO: AI-generated business summaries raise the stakes
