Seattle Is Investing in Digital Access — Here Are Tech Resources Residents Should Know About

Seattle is a technology city, but access to reliable computers, internet service, digital skills, and affordable technical support is still uneven. That matters because technology now affects jobs, school, benefits, health care, housing, banking, and basic communication.
Seattle is funding community technology programs
For 2026, Seattle’s Technology Matching Fund awarded $455,000 to 11 community organizations working on digital access and digital-skills projects. The projects cover computer and internet access, digital literacy, technical assistance, workforce training, and support for communities that have historically faced barriers to technology.
One local example is Friends of Little Saigon, which received funding for a small-business digital literacy project in Little Saigon.
Digital access is more than Wi-Fi
- Reliable internet connectivity
- Working computers and mobile devices
- Technology skills and support
- Access to useful applications and online services
A free laptop does not solve much if it is infected, too slow to use, unable to connect to Wi-Fi, or locked behind an account problem. Likewise, internet service is less useful when the computer itself is failing.
Before throwing away an older computer, check it
A system that feels unusably slow may have a failing hard drive, insufficient RAM, too many startup apps, malware, thermal problems, corrupted system files, or weak Wi-Fi configuration. Many of those problems can be repaired for far less than the cost of a replacement PC.
Neighborhood-level tech support matters
Sometimes a person does not need a new $1,000 computer. They need someone to diagnose why the current laptop will not boot, why Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting, whether a pop-up is malware, or whether an SSD upgrade is worth it.
